Friday 3rd September 2010 Resource Search:

Day : 1

"Then my soul will rejoice in the Lord and delight in his salvation. My whole being will exclaim, 'Who is like you, O Lord?'" (Psalm 35 verses 9 - 10) As we meditate on God’s great salvation won for us in the Lord Jesus Christ, all that He has delivered us from and the price He has paid for our redemption, may everything within us be drawn out in praise and worship to Him in our thoughts, our lips and our lives.

Day : 2

On its tenth anniversary, thank God for the ongoing work of Share Jesus International and pray for Andy Frost, Director, and all those engaged in the various ministries. Pray especially for their work among young people and in nurturing and equipping young leaders.

Day : 3

Please pray for the new Government as it begins its term of office, that those elected will show themselves to be honourable and trustworthy. Pray that Christians in Parliament will make their voices heard, and remember too in prayer your local councillors and the Member of Parliament for your constituency.

Day : 4

Thank God for the way that Back to Church Sunday (this year, 26 September) has been used over the past few years to bring a fresh impetus to inviting people amongst us who may not have been in worship for some time. Pray that an increasing number of churches will engage with this and that individuals will respond. Ask God that those who come in will not just attend for that Sunday but that the Holy Spirit will use it to rekindle faith in them. Pray too for the “Rediscovering Faith” tour by Share Jesus International this November, that again God will use this to help churches re-engage with those who have drifted away.

Day : 5

Pray that manufacturers will increasingly turn to fair trade sources for their supplies; thank God for those who have already done so. Pray too that we will be aware, as consumers, of how the choices we make affect other people and the environment.

Day : 6

Steve and Rosalind Bagwell, with Laura, working with Wycliffe Bible Translators at JAARS in North Carolina, are planning a mini-furlough this summer to the UK and France, June to August. News from the Cameroon is that the Normaande New Testament translation is completed after 20 years. There are still 100 languages in Cameroon that haven’t been translated yet. Laura (16 in July) is doing well at school. Ros is very busy in the Accounting Department, and the family are all involved with their local church, where 120 people gave their lives to the Lord at Christmas. Ros is part of the church’s drama team ministering in the children’s service. Prayers are asked for good health and safety on their summer travels and that the family will be used by God to attract others to church.

Day : 7

Ask God to help us to continue to seek out opportunities for the gospel among older people, that we may see something of the urgency of presenting them with the claims of Christ while there is still time. Pray for a real movement of the Holy Spirit among the elderly.

Day : 8

Please continue to pray for Ian Bell and the Venture FX initiative; pray for wisdom and discernment in deciding which projects to pursue and in placing the appropriate people in them.

Ask God to help us recognise our helplessness and utter dependence on Him for all we do in His name. Plead with Him for the power of the Holy Spirit in our ministries and that we will continue persistent in prayer for revival.

Day : 10

Please pray today for those working among people otherwise shunned by society. Thank God for initiatives such as Street Pastors, going out on to the streets of our towns and cities late at night; and pray too for those working among the homeless, asylum seekers, sex workers, people dependent on alcohol or illegal drugs; and those caught up in offending, whether in or out of prison. Pray for a real breakthrough of the Holy Spirit in people’s lives and for strength, joy and endurance for those who give themselves to these demanding ministries week after week.

Day : 11

Thank God for the opportunities afforded by next year being designated the “Year of the Bible“ and through Biblefresh. Pray that He will help us to present the Scriptures to those in our community to whom they are unfamiliar in a way that demonstrates that they are contemporary, relevant and trustworthy.

Day : 12

Bassey and Jannine Ebenso (The Leprosy Mission) attended Horsham Baptist Church on World Leprosy Day, and have been to many other meetings in the UK and abroad. Bassey’s trip to Nigeria was very successful, carrying out interviews, and he met family members and friends as well. He is preparing a dissertation of 100,000 words and asks for prayer for this. The Leprosy Mission is developing country strategies and Bassey will be helping with preparing documents for Chad and Guinea. Jannine’s studies are going well at the University of Leeds, and she asks for prayer that she will find the time needed for study.

Day : 13

Thank God for all those who work so tirelessly on behalf of MET and remember in your prayers all members of the Executive. Pray especially for Geoffrey Wallwork, as he so faithfully carries out the responsibilities of Treasurer, and for Hazel Harwood, in her demanding role as Administrator.

Please continue to pray for children and young people in our society, that in amongst the competing messages all around, they may clearly hear the call of the Lord Jesus. Pray for Christians involved in whatever capacity in schools, and also for the work among children and young people which goes on in our churches and out on the streets.

Day : 17

Today, please pray for protection for all those in the emergency services; thank God for their dedication and willingness to put themselves in danger on our behalf. Thank God too for His continued protection over us from terrorist activity and ask Him to sustain all those who watch over these matters with unflagging vigilance.

Day : 18

Please pray for Michael and Sheila Holland, Methodist Mission Partners in Togo, West Africa, and their daughters Srijana (age 12) and Saffron (age 6). They ask us to pray for the Methodist Church in Togo, for guidance, wisdom and courage to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit as they stand up in the name of Jesus for peace, reconciliation and justice during a time of political unrest. Pray too for God’s protection on its pastors and staff, some of whom have received threats against their lives.

Day : 19

Thank God for your minister and uphold him or her in prayer with all the responsibilities they carry, some clearly seen and others private. Pray for all those moving to new circuits this September, that they and their families might quickly settle in to unfamiliar surroundings and feel themselves to be part of God’s family in that place.

Day : 20

Day : 21

Thank God for Christian agencies which campaign on issues such as sanitation for all, climate change and other moral and ethical issues. Pray that we might all play our part in this and demonstrate that we have a collective voice as Christians, which the Government cannot afford to ignore.

Day : 22

Please pray for Christians seeking to live God‘s way in their marriages and family life; pray that relationships will be strengthened and protected and that they might be an example to others of the benefits of following God‘s plans in our relationships and society.

Day : 23

Pray today that God will give you opportunities to share the gospel with those you meet, whether they be family members, close friends and neighbours, passing acquaintences or strangers. Ask Him to help you know what to say that will be effective and meaningful to the hearers and pray too that your words will be well-received.

Day : 24

Please pray for Barbara Dickinson at Maua Methodist Hospital in Kenya. Remember too in your prayers the new CEO, Mr Mailutha, who joined in February, that he may be true to the promises he made at his induction service and that God will guide him as he leads the management team. Bring before God the staffing crisis at the hospital, as nurses and clinical officers are being recruited by the Government, as the hospital cannot match the salaries and conditions of service being offered, and ask for His provision in the financial problems the hospital is experiencing.

Day : 25

Over these holiday months, thank God that people can take time out and relax and, during their periods of relaxation, perhaps be able to think about spiritual matters which they do not normally allow time for in busy lives. Pray for the churches in tourist resorts, that they might be motivated and equipped to share the Gospel with holidaymakers and for holiday clubs going on in churches up and down the land.

If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (John chapter 15 verse 5) Pray today for yourself and for your church, that you may be so closely-knit to the Lord Jesus that His fruit will be manifest in your life.
